We remain dedicated to help and assist as we can with the war response. We could only do this with your prayers and financial gifts. This page is highlighting some of the stories and projects that UOO has done with your help.
Pictures and Stories
Our dear friend Alex B. has always taught us about Ukraine culture on our numerous mission trips since 2005. The last time we were there, I learned about Orthodox Icons.
The word “icon” comes from the Greek eikо̄n, so “icon” simply means image. In the Eastern Roman “Byzantine” Empire and other lands that shared Byzantium's Orthodox Christian faith, “holy icons” were images of sacred figures and events. , or of honorable angels, or of any saint or holy man." (khanaacademy.org) Alex shared with me this poignant and moving photo of Ukraines newest icon. The Madonna of Kyiv. But this icon has a real name. Her name is Olga. During the shelling of Kyiv she covered her newborn baby to save her from fragments of shrapnel. Please continue to pray for Ukraine and all those caught in the crossfire of this war. Pray for peace, pray for life, pray for hope. Pray for those defending the cause of freedom as well as protection of human life. Lord, please rain down your protection for your beautiful children in Ukraine. |
