Camping Out

We left early Monday morning for three days of camping in Granby.  Chief Silvertip (Ben McGuire) and Mrs. B (Bridget McGuire) have been taking children camping for over 20 years. We had so much fun learning how to shoot bows and arrows, pump rifles, swimming in the beaver pond, hiking through a meadow of columbines and playing capture the flag. Each morning and evening we spent time worshiping the Creator of this beautiful place. On Tuesday evening Chief told us the amazing story of how he shot a 1500 grizzly bear that had just come out of hibernation. The lesson that evening was on the grizzly bears that we might face in our life: drugs, alcohol, rebellion, anger…the list goes on…and how we have a choice to follow the wide path to destruction that most people go down or the narrow path, which leads to peace, joy and eternal life with Christ. Seven children prayed to receive Christ that evening as their eternal Savior. We rejoiced in camp while the angels rejoiced in heaven. Thank you, Chief and Mrs. B, for your servant hearts. To our three awesome cooks, Lisa, Kim & Charlie-thank you for spending hours preparing our food so we could spend more time with the kids. A big thanks to all of the volunteers that came along: Cole, Preston, Kym, Laura, Ahna, Austin, Ashley, Joshua, Chris, Benjamin, Kayla, Allie, Vicki, Kolya and Erica! Thank you to the Borgstrom family for letting us camp on your beautiful land! The kids will always remember the time they spent in the great outdoors.

Our adventure in the mountains began with a few vans and a few tents and a whole lot of smiles. The first day the kids were pretty tired from all the previous activities but by day two, with a little rest and some VERY good food they were so excited about everything and about being in God’s beautiful creation. They got to shoot some pellet guns and archery, swim in beaver ponds, take hikes and play a version of “capture the flag”. They just lit up at each event, especially the archery and the pellet guns. The kids got to shoot at balloons and even had their own little competition going. They were amazing. Even the translators got in on some of the action. We heard some amazing stories by the campfire from Chief Silvertip as he shared the gospel with the children and the dangers of following the wide path. He beckoned them to the narrow path with his sweet stories and the children listened with attentivness. Then the highlight of the trip came on the last night by the camp fire when several of the children responded to the Holy Spirit’s gentle leading and gave their heart to Christ. WOW what a wonderful moment. To see the fatherless fall into the arms of the loving Father is something I will never forget. This was truly an amazing trip with memories for a life time.
