As many of you may know by now, Kris will be leaving for Ukraine on October 12th (NEXT WEEK!), and will be visiting several kids from past camps. If you can quickly put together a gallon ziploc gift bag it would be greatly appreciated. (See the Gift Donors Needed post for ideas). In order for Kris to get everything packed, we will need the gift bags by THIS FRIDAY, Oct 8th.

Over 2 million children are currently enslaved around the world, including every one of the 50 United States.
In an effort to play our part in ending this injustice, several volunteers and board members of UOO have joined the Stop Child Trafficking Now (SCTNow) Campaign. SCTNow has chosen to fund a bold, new approach, one that addresses the demand side of child sex trafficking by targeting buyers/predators for prosecution and conviction.
On the weekend of October 2-3, 2010, thousands of individuals in communities across the United States and Canada will participate in SCTNow Walks to raise funds and bring awareness to the issue of child trafficking.
Would you join us as we commit to raise funds to end child slavery? By simply clicking on “Support Me” or writing a check to SCTNow you can make a contribution that will make a difference in the life of a child.
Once you get to the SCTNow donation site, just pick one or more of your favorite UOO team members that you want to support.
We have set a lofty goal of $5000 for our team, and with your help we can make it!
Thank you !!
Dear UOO Supporters, we have a great blessing opportunity! Paul & Vicki will be traveling to Ukraine soon on their adoption trip. Please keep them in your prayers. They will be visiting the 2010 camp kids. We would like to send along a gallon Ziploc bag for each of the campers. You will be amazed at how much you can fit into a gallon Ziploc! Ideas are: clothing (rolled up), mittens, scarf, hat, jewelry, small toys, hair stuff, etc. It is nice to send some small items that they can share with their friends in the orphanage: candy (that won’t melt), stickers, Oriental trading toys, etc. Please include a note to the camper and a photo of your family. We need to have the Ziploc bags by Thursday, September 30th. Kids that still need a sponsor are: Sasha, Alyona and Sasha. Please email Kari if you would like to sponsor one of the kids at: kariv90@comcast.net
I’m not sure where she got the idea. She must have seen some other kids do it. This child lacks nothing in the inhibitions department. She knows everyone on the block! When she decided to do a lemonade stand, she decided to do it on the most high profile spot on the block: right on 75th street. I was a little nervous that she would cause an accident!
No problem. After the first couple of successful days of selling the instant variety, I suggested the lemonade concentrate on account of its improved taste. Her costumers loved it. She had people stopping and buying a glass with ice for 50 cents a glass. The fire trucks stopped. The trash truck stopped and so did the mailman. Often times they would give her a $5 and tell her to keep the change.
When I asked her why she wanted to give the profits to UOO and not keep them for herself, she said that she had been helped and wanted to help other kids too.
Thank you Sophie for your generous heart!
